DUBLIN - 9-12 Noviembre

Ya se acabó el primer viaje largo que hago aquí..sniff sniff... y ha estado muy bien!! Dublín está genial, y el hostal era mejor de lo que pensaba. Así que, sin más dilación, pasaré al resumen completo del viajecito que hicimos Vicente, Patrice, Lorena, Rosa, Cristina y yo.

Dia 1

Un poco más y me quedo en Sheffield...empezó bien la cosa jejeje. No sé cómo, pero cambié la hora de mi reloj, por lo que el despertador no sonó cuando tenía que hacerlo. Habíamos quedado a las 07:50 en recepción, y milagrosamente me desperté a menos cinco!! Arreglé la maleta en dos minutos y a correr!! Por suerte sólo me dejé las toallas y el cepillo de dientes, además del pasaporte (que no me hizo falta uff).

Ya en Dublín, nos instalamos en el Isaac's Hostel, que me dio buena impresión, los baños limpios y agua caliente en las duchas. Mi única queja el poco desayuno que daban: té o café y una magdalena.

Luego ya fuimos a dar una vuelta por la ciudad, aunque ya era bastante tarde y empezaban a cerrar los sitios. Aún así, pudimos ver la National Gallery, el centro comercial Stephen's Green, la calle de tiendas (Grafton Street) y la parte del muelle (City Quay). Para terminar el primer día nos fuimos a Temple Bar, la zona de pubs, y entramos al pub del mismo nombre. Había un gran ambiente y era muy grande, me gustó mucho. Eso sí, te clavan por la Guinness que no veas...jejeje

Dia 2

Nos despertamos prontito y enseguida a ver los dos parques principales de la ciudad (St. Stephen's Green y Merrion Square)y la universidad (Trinity College); después la zona medieval, incluyendo la St. Patrick's Cathedral y la Christ Church. Tras reponer fuerzas en el Pizza Hut nos fuimos de museos (bueno, Cristina prefirió ir de tiendas xD) y pudimos ver el National Museum, con infinidad de salas dedicadas básicamente a la época vikinga y medieval, incluso con zona egipcia. Había de todo, muy interesante. A continuación tocó el Museo de Historia Natural, con animales disecados. Aunque ya cerraban y no pudimos ir al piso de arriba, vimos toda clase de animales: lobos, focas, esqueletos de ciervos enormes, aves, tiburones...

Y de nuevo, después de cenar, de pubs jejeje esta vez tocó el VAThouse, que estuvo muy bien, y el Farrington's, igual de bueno. Con nosotros vino nuestro compañero de habitacion "Eilian", de Hong-Kong. Parecia muy tímido, pero fue empezar a sonar la música y se soltó como el que más!! xDD Se convirtió en mi joven "escudero", porque me seguía a todas partes jejeje es una pena que no pudieramos despedirnos el último dia, porque estaba totalmente dormido y no quisimos despertarle...

Dia 3

Hoy era dia de 'relax', más o menos jeje. La mañana la dedicamos a ver la Guinnes Storehouse, que fue bastante interesante. Esta vez se nos unió Nuria, la prima de Lorena, que vino en bus desde Galway para verla. Al terminar la visita te regalan una Guinness en el Gravity Bar de la séptima planta (desde donde se ve todo Dublín!), pero como las chicas no querían las suyas me tomé dos y Vicente cuatro!! Ya íbamos mareaos y no era ni de noche jaja.

Después de comer (en el Burguer King, como no!) nos pasamos la tarde entera de compras, cada uno a su aire. Yo compré varias camisas en el centro comercial: una de la peli 'La Naranja Mecanica', la típica verde de Irlanda...

Y por supuesto, en nuestra última noche en Dublín no podía faltar la visita al pub de rigor, esta vez The Auld Dubliner, si no me equivoco. Estaba lleno de gente por todas partes, todos los pubs llenísimos.

A la mañana siguiente, a despertarse pronto y coger taxi hacia el aeropuerto. Tras poco más de 45 minutos de vuelo y el mismo tiempo hasta Halifax, ya estaba en mi habitacion de nuevo... Se me hizo un poco raro estar otra vez en Sheffield...

En fin, en otro orden de cosas, decir que el miércoles 8 vi por fin a MOTÖRHEAD!! Primero tocaron las chicas de Crucified Barbara, y la verdad es que me sorprendieron, porque aunque había poca gente aún, lo cierto es que demostraron como se rockea!! Sonaron realmente potentes, muy "heavies" jeje. A continuación tocaron Clutch, que me encantaron con su rock con 'groove' y un cantante esquizofrénico. Recién descubiertos, pero ya entre mis favoritos. Ya entre mucha expectación salieron Motörhead y desde el primer minuto sonaron geniales. Cayeron todos sus clásicos y temas de los dos últimos discos, igual de buenos. Un gran solo de bateria, un blues acústico y cierre cómo no con 'Ace of Spades' y 'Overkill'. Además, Lemmy estuvo muy bromista, un tipo entrañable xDD.

Y acabaré diciendo que el día anterior seguimos con el torneo del PRO 5, y nos clasificamos para semifinales!!! Ganamos nuestros dos partidos de liguilla y quedamos primeros de grupo, para despues pasar de cuartos en un partido agónico: se llegó a la prórroga con empate a uno. En la segunda mitad conseguí marcar, pero después tuve que hacer un penalty y nos igualaron...Por suerte, ya en la tanda de penaltys, me paré uno y el rival falló otro, y nosotros los metimos todos jaja!! Mucha emoción, y ahora semifinales contra un rival muy duro: un argentino que juega realmente bien. A ver que tal nos va!!

My first 'large trip' has just ended sniff sniff...and it's been great!! Dublin is amazing and the hostal was better than expected. Let's start then with the story of the trip that Vicente, Patrice, Lorena, Rosa, Cristina and me did in our Reading Week.

Day 1

I almost never left for Dublin...great start! hehehe. The thing is that for some reason I changed the hour of my clock, so the alarm didn't sound...I had to meet the rest of the people at 07:50, and I managed to wake up at 07:55, so I prepared my luggage in two minutes and started running!! It could have been a disaster, but I only forgot my towels, my toothbrush and my passport (which luckily was not needed).

Once in Dublin, we went right to Isaac's Hostel, which really looked good: clean toilets and quite hot water in the showers. My only complaint was the breakfast: just tea or coffee and a muffin.

Then we walked for a while through the city and though it was late and the places were beginning to close, we saw the National Gallery, the Sthepen's Green Shopping Centre, the shopping street (Grafton Street)and the City Quay. To end with our first day in Dublin we went to the pubs area, Temple Bar, and entered the one with that same name. It was pretty big and with a great atmosphere, but the Guinness was really expensive...

Day 2

We woke up early and went to visit the two main parks in the city (St. Stephen's Green y Merrion Square) and the university (Trinity College); then the medieval area, including St. Patrick's Cathedral and Christ Church. After getting some lunch in Pizza Hut we went to the museums(well, Cristina preferred go shopping xD) and we saw the National Museum, with multiple rooms devoted to all ages: egiptian, medieval, viking, etc. There were a lot of interesting things to see there. Afterwards we went to the Natural History Museum, with plenty of stuffed animals: wolves, sealions, birds, sharks...unfortunately we had no time to go upstairs.

And again, after dinner, to the pubs!! This time we went to VAThouse and Farrington's, both really good. This time we had a new friend with us: our room-mate "Eilian", a boy from Hong-Kong. He seemed very shy, but once the music started he went crazy hehe. He became my young "squire", since he followed me all the time xDD It's a pity we couldn't say goodbye to him on Sunday, because we departed really early and we didn't want to wake him up...

Day 3

This was a 'relax day', more or less. We devoted the morning to visit the Guinness Storehouse, which was quite interesting. This time we were met by Nuria, a cousin of Lorena who lives in Galway. Once you finish the tour, they give you a beer at the floor 7, the Gravity Bar, where you can see all the city of Dublin. Since the girls didn't want their Guinness, I had two and Vicente four!! We were a bit drunk and it wasn't dark yet!

After lunch (at Burguer King, of course!) we spent the whole evening shopping. I bought some shirts in Sthephen's Green: a Clockwork Orange one, the typical green one of Ireland... And of course, in our last night in Dublin, we had to go to the pubs again, this time to The Auld Dubliner, If I'm not wrong. It was really crowded everywhere, all pubs full of people. Great atmosphere!!

The following morning, we just woke up early and got a taxi to the airport. After a 45-minute flight and the same time in a taxi to Sheffield,, I was back in my room again...something that felt a bit strange to me!

By the way, last Wednesday I saw MOTÖRHEAD!! The show started with the girls of Crucified Barbara, who really surprised me, because though there were not many people yet, they showed us how to rock!! They sounded really really heavy that night. After them it was time for Clutch and I really liked them, with their groovy rock and a schizophrenic frontman. I have just discovered this band, but they are now amongst my favourite ones! Then Motörhead appeared, at last, and since the first minute they sounded great. They played all their classics and some new songs from the last two albums, which are really good. A great drum solo, an acoustic blues and the bis with the typical songs 'Ace of Spades' and 'Overkill'. Furthermore, Lemmy was really funny, a very nice bloke xDD

I will finish by saying that we managed to get to the semifinals in the PRO 5 tournament. We won our two league games and got in the first position of our group; then we had a really difficult quarters match: we had to play the extra time after a result of 1-1 (in the second half I managed to score, but later I had to stop a rival and it was penalty...) Luckily, in the penalty shots I stopped one and they failed another, whereas we scored all of them hahaha!!! Really dramatically, very nervous, but we won. Now we have to beat a very good Argentinian guy in the semifinals, pray for us!! hehehe

STRATFORD - UPON - AVON 4 Noviembre

Otro sábado, otra excursión. Hoy fue el turno de Stratford-upon-Avon, ciudad famosa por ser donde nació Shakespeare. En un principio nos dedicamos a visitar las diferentes casas famosas que hay: en la que nació Shakespeare, la de su nieta (Nash House), la de su mujer antes de casarse con él (Anne Hathaway's Cottage)y Hall's Croft (casa de su hija y su yerno). Para nosotros (hoy sólo eramos dos: Rosa y yo, los excursionistas de siempre xD) la mejor fue la de la mujer, mucho más bonita que el resto, y el guía era muy gracioso. El resto son más tipo museo, con primeras ediciones de las obras de Shakespeare y cosas de ese tipo, bastante interesantes.

Después vimos tambien la Holy Trinity Church, muy pequeña pero donde se encuentran las tumbas de Shakespeare y su mujer. Como suele pasar, la entrada es "gratis", pero para pasar tienes que dar un donativo...el caso es que me equivoqué de urna y al pasar hacia la tumba tuvimos que dar otra vez dinero...no se quejarán!! xDD

También queríamos ver la Harvard House, la casa de la madre de John Harvard (en efecto, la universidad americana lleva ese nombre por él), pero estaba cerrado.

Luego, en el McDonald's donde fuimos a comer, me atendió un canario y me invitó a los nuggets. Resulta que ya no llevaba suelto, y le dije que me los quitara. Pero tras anularlos del ticket con su jefe, me los puso en la bandeja!! Sí señor, ayudándonos entre nosotros, como toca jeje (eso sí es la 'Spanish Way').

Ya habíamos visto prácticamente todo lo importante antes de comer, así que el resto del tiempo lo dedicamos a ver un poco más la zona del río Avon y el parque a sus orillas, además de ver un par de teatros.

Finalmente, llegamos a una 'Butterfly Farm'. Como sobraba tiempo, entramos a ver cómo era. Y valió la pena, porque era una especie de jardín botánico donde montones de mariposas de todos los colores que uno pueda imaginar revoloteaban a tu alrededor y se posaban en ti. Parecía una especie de selva o algo así...muy guapo, la verdad. Tambien habia otros animales: camaleones, serpientes, escorpiones, etc. Lo más curioso fue pasar por debajo de una cuerda por donde pasaban hormigas llevando trocitos de hojas hasta su hormiguero.

Bueno, eso fue todo lo que hicimos en este viajecito. Ahora ya cuento los dias para el miércoles, que es cuando veré tocar a Motörhead (teloneros: Clutch y Crucified Barbara). Y el jueves a Dublín, ni me lo creo!! Pero antes he de terminar un essay de 2000 palabras para el martes...well, no problem anyway!!! jejeje
Ah, y he comprado entrada para otro concierto más, el cuarto en Sheffield ya: Hatebreed, Unearth y 12 Tribes. Por cierto, el martes es la segunda jornada del torneo del PRO 5 de nuestra residencia, a ver cómo se nos da esta vez.

One more saturday, one more trip! This time it was to Stratford-upon-Avon, famous for being the birthplace of Shakespeare. We started the journey by visiting the main famous houses in the town: where Shakespeare was born, her great-daughter's house (Nash House), her wife's house before marrying him (Anne Hathaway's Cottage) and Hall's Croft (his daughter's house). For us (today we were only two: Rosa and me, the typical excursionists xD) the best one was Hathaway's one, the most beautiful of them all and the guide was really funny. The others are more like museums, with things like the first folios of Shakespeare's complete works, very valuable items published around 1620's, if I remember well. Quite interesting, in fact.

Then we also saw the Holy Trinity Church, very small but there you can find the grave of Shakespeare and his wife. As usual in this places, entrance is "free", but you are asked to make a donation...what happened is that I put it in the wrong place and we had to give a second donation before entering the place where the grave is located...they can't complain about our generosity now!!

We also wanted to see the Harvard House, the house of John Harvard's mother, after whom Harvard University in the USA was named. Unfortunately, it was closed.

Later on, at the McDonald's we went for lunch, I was attended by a Canarian man who gave me nuggets for free. The thing is that I had no cash left, so I asked him to quit the nuggets, but after cancelling the ticket with his boss, he gave them to me again!! Yeaaahh, that is the real 'Spanish Way' hehe cooperating among us...xD

We had a lot of time left and we had already visited the important places, so we devoted the rest of the time to find a couple of theatres and explore the park next to River Avon.

Finally, we found a 'Butterfly Farm', so we entered to see what was it like.
It was like a botanical garden, but with lots of butterflies flying around you all the time; quite amazing. There were also scorpions, spiders and similar animals. The most curious thing for me was to see a rope hanging over us, where ants were carrying leaves they cut from a plant.

That is all we did this time, again a great trip. Now I'm really looking forward to go to Motörhead's gig on Wednesday (with Clutch and Crucified Barbara), and the following day to Dublin!!! I can't believe it yet, too many things one after the other!! But before I have to finish a 2000 words essay for Tuesday...well, no problem anyway! hehe
By the way, I've bought a ticket for Hatebreed's gig on November (also featuring Unearth and 12 Tribes) and on Tuesday we continue with our Stevo Pro 5 tournament!!
